Laurent Mougeot Obviously You are several Ranks Higher than me and I don't want to argue with a E1 LOL....

However but that does not make sense to me.... The body's natural instinct will be the deflection and moving the body in a Oh Crap Motion..... The body's Natural instinct is not to deflect and punch simultaneously...... If someone where to throw a tennis ball at you you would move your head and try to Block / Deflect the ball. You would not Try to swat and deflect the ball and Punch into thin air.......is this not correct?

Hi Thilo, it's weird, I actually think that it's the complete opposite! A perfect example is the P2 simultaneous defense against straight punch (under arm)- it is way too dangerous to ever be used by choice other 1.5 but it is a very good defense when you are totally surprised...my first instructor used it in the street against a sudden attack and dropped the guy unconscious! The idea is that 1.5 demands more body defense (200 percent), which demandes more readiness...when you are trained like we are simultaneous is our natural response...does that make sense to you? ;-)

My Take or Understanding on the simultaneous vs 1.5 Is that for the 1.5 You have an issue with someone. You don't know if they are going to hit you or not. Therefore you are aware but not 100% aware Thus there is still somewhat of a Oh Crap factor where you defend and then strike. You are aware enough to put your hands up and try to diffuse the situation.

However with the simultaneous you are in a Fighting Stance. Your mind is prepared, You know they are going to punch and you are waiting and watching for it to happen so you are much more ready and have already planned out your counter attack in your head.... I am very interested to hear your answers.....

I think the decision between the 1.5 or the simultaneous counter attack, is a question of different states of readiness, I would say that you need a higher state of readiness for a simultaneous counter attack, since you have to coordinate two limbs at the same time and one of them has to hit as well a choosen target, so it takes more thinking into account, whereas the inside defense 1.5 rhythm, begins with a inside defense, that's close to a natural reaction/reflexive motion which requires a lower state of readiness, after this defense you start to think that it's possible to lower the arm of the attacker and counter attack, then you performend the 1.5 rhythm defense, maybe I am right or maybe not, please enlighten me with the correct answer ^^, cheers.
